Lampara Poem
Chairs, lamps, oil, and wicks
the four-spoke stories of wisdom’s deep call,
communion — “a liturgy of friendship”
the heart longs for friendship
the heart longs to be seen, known, and loved.
“Come away with me, my beloved, to the table.
you are warmly welcome here”
“A seat at the table, prepared just for you.”
These symbols were etched in a Mallorcan adventure I once had,
the winds of love took me through the details of simple longing.
A heart hungry not just for table food, but heart food.
Dusty grounds and hallowed archways
I chased the blue ocean waters
the quietness brought a settling
I found the ears of my heart most attentive, most sensitive
with the revealing of oil lamps, tender words met me,
the beauty of simple connection
something bigger than me
radiant and true
warm, honest, and kind
I felt known, and it only required humility.
A tenderness that can hold and see such wisdom
it grows like a burning flame inside
a humble little oil lamp
lampara
to cut the wick, to fill this tiny little lamp with oil
a holy intimacy, a sacred connection
“it’s not a bonfire I heard in my heart,it’s a simple oil lamp.”
I found myself lost, sketching old lamps found in Bible times
“there is no need or fuss to make a large fire, come to me simply,
like a small oil lamp that burns”
keep burning
grow hungry not only for table moments of delicious food,
but grow in hunger to seek after more —
more moments of heart food,
food given by a holy heart, a holy hand
yes, the heart desires food —
true and pure ingredients
the world is full of the fuss, the craze,
the constant fads and phases
but I would hear:
I feed you not how the world feeds
I feed you words of truth, love,
an eternal hope, and a peace that surpasses understanding
the belly of your heart desires this eternal banquet
there is goodness here,
where your heart finds home and belonging
oil — so much oil
how tasty and true is this food I give to you
simple, humble —
this petite little lamp will outshine all complexities
and last forever
what a tender and sacred love
tend to the lamp and keep burning
little lampara, shine —
this humble radiance outshines any light bulb
stay connected,
stay tender,
stay humble and soft
cut your wicks and fill your lampara with oil
come to the table
and seek my heart for wisdom’s food
for I will set your heart ablaze,
and you will burn.
Much love and colours
